Mammal survey is one of application fields where SMID Technology devices can provide superior performances. The interest in mammal monitoring and tracking derives from the following statements:
- High concern from public opinion about marine and mammal life conditions
- Requirement for any LF active acoustic experiment
- Current detection and tracking techniques are inadequate
SMID Technology developed a Digital Towed Array based on very low noise preamplified hydrophones (band 80 kHz, compensated versus acceleration) connected to an underwater Transmission Unit that includes proper A/D converters (192 kHz of Sampling Frequency) and the drivrers to feed digital data through a 300 meters towing cable. A black-box (Receiving Unit) at the dry termination of the cable allows the connection to a COTS PC ir Lap Top via standard USB2 ports.
The system has been developed in co-operation with CIBRA – (Pavia)
